On October 20th, the International Conference on Identification, Information and Knowledge of IOT (IIKI2016), sponsored by the College of Information Science and Technology, opened at Beijing Normal University. Vice president of Beijing Normal University Kai Zhang, Director of Science and Technology Department Anru Lou, and 300 guests and related experts from all over the world attended the opening ceremony chaired by Professor Rongfang Bie.

On behalf of BNU, Vice President Kai Zhang made an enthusiastic speech at the opening ceremony. He welcomed international experts to Beijing Normal University, described the successes of the university’s international exchange program, and gave affirmation and blessing for the meeting.

As the conference co-chair, visiting Professor Peter Thomas from Brunel University in UK, gave a speech at the opening ceremony and reviewed the development of the conference over the last few years. He looked forward to meeting the experts and scholars and hoped that the conference will continue as an outstanding communication platform for researchers in IOT.

As a partner in University of Ljubljana, Slovenia, Associate Professor Anton Kos introduced Slovenia, the University of Ljubljana, and the project recently signed with BNU for student exchanges. He described future plans for the exchange of students and teachers, and hoped to strengthen academic cooperation and communication with BNU.

During the two days of invited talks, experts highlighted developments in the field of IoT. They are: the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Networks and Computer Applications and Professor Mohammed Atiquzzaman from the University of Oklahoma, IEEE Fellow and Professor Kui Ren from State University of New York, Professor Yan Zhang from University of Oslo, Norway, Chairman of Beijing Govmade Internet Information Consultant Co. Ltd Mr. Bingzhi Yang, and Professor Peter Thomas.

Coming from the United States of America, Great Britain, Germany, Slovenia, China and other countries, nearly 100 experts and scholars in related fields of the IOT attended the meeting. 200 students from Beijing Normal University, Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications, China University of Geosciences (Beijing) and other key colleges and universities listened to the reports at the conference.

Special presentations at the conference concerned big data and cloud computing, knowledge engineering, networking, network, mobile network, physical space opportunities for mobile health, wireless network and mobile network security and user experience in the internet of things. The latest research results were presented and the lively discussions attracted attention from a large number of participants. The conference proceedings will be published by IEEE, and approved to be EI indexed. Outstanding papers will be recommended to the international SCI journals in related fields.
